Charleston was the former home of artists Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell and the country retreat of the Bloomsbury group and is today a thriving historic house museum in the Sussex countryside between Lewes and Eastbourne.
The Charleston Festival is a prestigious annual literary festival involving writers, performers, politicians and thinkers – both high profile and up and coming, national and international. The programme is available from www.charleston.org.uk The Festival takes place in a marquee in the grounds of Charleston and around 10,000 visitors will attend 36 events over an 9 day period.
The 2014 Charleston Festival takes place from Friday 16th to Monday 26th May (no events on Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th May) and events run from 1pm-10.15pm on weekdays and 12pm-10.00pm on weekends. Most catering positions will commence at 10.30am on each day. Other positions will start two hours before the first event of the day.
The Charleston Trust is seeking casual staff to take on a range of responsibilities throughout the running of the Festival. Roles available include:
- Car parking and traffic controllers
- Bar staff
- Tea Tent staff
We are looking for confident and outgoing people who have:
- Excellent customer service and front of house skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work well under pressure, in a team and individually
- Previous catering/retail/ customer service/ festival or events environment experience is desirable
Because of Charleston’s rural location all applicants must have a current UK driving licence and the use of a car or have guaranteed lifts. Charleston is not served by public transport and the timings for the festival shuttle bus are not suitable for Festival staff. Please give careful consideration to your transport options before applying.
